They say everything is better with bacon, and in this case, it’s gold medals that go better with bacon – Otway Streaky Bacon to be precise.
Otway Pork’s renowned Streaky bacon was awarded a gold medal for its convenient, sliced 200gram pack, one of three medals the company took out at this year’s Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards on Friday night, with silver medals awarded to Otway Short cut bacon slab and Otway sliced short cut bacon.
Otway Pork is produced by The Pastoral Pork Company, and CEO Cameron Hall said the medals are a tribute to the team’s unwavering commitment to producing quality, 100 per cent Australian pork products.
“Our pigs are born and bred in the fresh outdoors in Western Victoria, where our team members have dedicated their working days for the past 30 years to raising happy, stress-free pigs,” Mr Hall said. “It’s no wonder our bacon reaps accolades like these.”
Mr Hall said the competition was particularly fierce this year with 725 entries across ten classes, but he had been confident in the lead up to the awards that Otway Pork would stand out from the crowd.
“The flavour of Otway Bacon is unmistakeable,” Mr Hall said. “It’s made with a recipe that’s been perfected over the years.”
The gold medal wasn’t the only win being celebrated by the Otway Pork team. Gold medals were also awarded to butchers and retail outlets supplied by Otway Pork including Peter Bouchier, Bell’s Best Cuts, G.McBean Family Butchers, Smokers Butchery, Lucas Brothers, Meat Barn Warrnambool and Griffin & Morris reflecting a commitment by these winners to source only the best material.
