Otway Pork wins best ham at world’s leading meat awards

Otway Pork’s Traditional Ham has won a best ham award at the prestigious IFFA DFV International Product and Quality Competition, one of the world’s most revered charcuterie competitions.

The awards are run by the German Butchers’ Association and presented at IFFA, the world’s leading meat trade fair, held every three years in Frankfurt. The awards recognise the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality in meat products globally.

Otway Pork’s Traditional Ham was judged among the best from across the world, while bronze medals were awarded to Otway Pork’s Streaky Bacon and Short Cut Bacon, marking a major international milestone for the Geelong producer.

Otway Pork CEO Duncan Parry was invited to Frankfurt to accept the award, following last year’s Champions Trophy win at the Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards and a rigorous judging process conducted earlier this year.

“To be recognised on the global stage, among the best of the best, is a credit to the entire Otway team and a real testament to the care, craft and relentless obsession with quality that goes into everything we do,” Mr Parry said.

Otway Pork’s Traditional Ham was recognised as a stand-out among competitors for its texture and flavour, achieved through process that starts with perfectly produced pork and ends with double smoking in mountain ash woodchips. It’s a process that produces a delicious, premium ham that’s adored by many Australians.

“Food brings people together,” Mr Parry said. “It’s for sharing with family and at special events, and there are none bigger than the German Butchers’ Association judging the world’s best hams.”

Mr Parry said the win reflected the strength of Otway Pork’s ethical and sustainable farming practices – hallmarks of what the company proudly calls The Otway Way.

“Everyone across our supply chain, from our farmers to our butchers, is driven by the same passion: producing Australia’s best quality pork,” he said. “We’re proud to be putting south-west Victoria – and Australian pork – firmly on the international charcuterie map.

“We took our much-loved Traditional Ham to the world, and to come out on top is an honour. It’s an overnight success more than 30 years in the making.”

Mr Parry said the global awards were a victory shared not just with the Otway Pork team, but with the delis, specialty retailers, butchers, cafes, restaurants and retail outlets who stock and support Otway Pork.

“We are encouraging people to head to their local quality deli or butcher and ask for Otway,” Mr Parry said.
