Otway Pork wins big at the Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards

Otway Pork’s Traditional Ham has taken out the Champion’s trophy at the prestigious Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards.
The award was presented at the Australian Meat Industry Council’s annual ceremony in Sydney last night, where Otway Pork won the top gong for its Traditional Ham, as well as a gold medal for its Shortcut Bacon and a silver medal for its Streaky Bacon.
The champions trophy marks a significant achievement for the Otway Pork team, which has consistently set the standard for Australian charcuterie.
Otway Pork CEO Duncan Parry said the win for the ham, along with the medals for both shortcut and streaky bacon, was a clear recognition of the team’s commitment to delivering superior quality and taste through an ethical, sustainable approach to farming, hallmarks of what the company proudly calls The Otway Way.
“To be named the best boneless ham and take out three medals is a testament to the passion and expertise of our entire team,” Mr Parry said.
Mr Parry highlighted the significance of the awards in the face of quality competition, with more than 830 entries across 35 categories.
“The Australian Charcuterie Excellence Awards are highly competitive, and to be recognised at this level is an incredible honour,” he said.
“We were also really pleased to see a number of our partners – butchers and smallgoods producers who use Otway Pork to produce their fine food products – recognised with champions trophies. These include Lucas Brothers Butchers, Peter Bouchier and Warrandyte Quality Meats.”
“We were particularly excited for one of our customers, Braden Hike from Oakwood Smallgoods, who was runner-up in the Young Achievers Award.”
It’s the third year in a row that Otway Pork has won medals for its bacon.
“Our bacon stands out because of its rich, smoky flavour profile. There’s nothing quite like the crispy, salty deliciousness of bacon, and we’re rapt to be considered among Australia’s finest.”
With National Bacon Day sizzling on the horizon on August 31, there’s no better time to indulge in Otway Pork’s award-winning streaky bacon. “Bacon lovers, mark your calendars,” Mr Parry said. “It’s the perfect excuse to fry up a few rashers and celebrate with the best bacon in the country.”
Mr Parry said the gold medal was a victory to be shared, not just with his team but with the butchers, cafes, restaurants and retail outlets that support Otway Pork and stock its range. Among these are Bell’s Best Cuts, G.McBean Family Butcher, Meatsmith, restaurants 1915, The Last Inn and the Paddock Bakery.
“We’re deeply connected to our local food scene, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see our products enjoyed by so many across Victoria,” Mr Parry said.
“When people buy Otway Pork, they’re not just enjoying a delicious product, they’re supporting local farmers, local businesses and the local community.”
As Otway Pork celebrates this latest achievement, the team remains focused on continuing to deliver exceptional pork products that embody the values of The Otway Way.
